Barley, the main ingredient in Arctic Barley, is the only grain that can be grown in the harsh climate of Iceland and is currently not being utilized to its full potential. Arctic Barley is a new form of the highly nutritious grain and is processed without any additional salt, oils or additives and the processing of the grain is kept to a minimum and therefore it retains most of its vitamins and fibers. Arctic Barley is a tasty, crunchy and nutritious snack that resembles the taste and crunchiness of nuts but is suitable for health conscious people or those with nut allergies. On its own it is convenient as a snack and provides lasting energy on the go without added sugar or salt, when combined with other ingredients such as apples and coconut it is delicious as a snack or a breakfast muesli to add to yogurt or milk. This product adds tremendous value to the icelandic barley which at the moment is mostly being used for animal feed. Ultimately the packaging will be made from fibers that are sieved off during the processing of barley, making the entire product eco friendly as well as utilizing local ingredients. Target consumers are health conscious people who are concerned about the environment. The product is also suitable for people with nut allergies. This is a dry product, therefore shelf life is long and it can be stored at room temperature. The distribution of the product would initially be at a small scale with placement and distribution to health stores but ultimately it is forseen that Arctic Barley products will be available in the health food aisles of all the major supermarkets.
